It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allison. Following a routine outpatient procedure on November 14, 2024, he began experiencing pain on November 16, 2024. Despite his reluctance, his wife, Emily, rushed him to the emergency room on November 18, 2024, once she realized Allison was in desperate need of medical attention. Upon their arrival, Emily contacted Allison's eldest sister who met the couple in the emergency room. After several hours of testing and imaging, it was determined that Allison was in need of emergency surgery and was transported by ambulance to another hospital for it to be performed. Unbeknownst to Emily, it was the last time she would see a responsive Allison. By the time Allison arrived at the second hospital he had fell into septic shock where the pain was later determined to be complications from the surgery caused by treatment he was receiving from a pre-existing, service-based injury. Despite being in a medically-induced coma following his second surgery to alleviate his pain and correct the complication, Allison was unable to fully recover. Surrounded by his wife Emily and one of his sisters, Allison transitioned on November 25, 2024, at only 35-years-old.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Emily Opuiyo; their daughter Illyria Opuiyo, age 2; and his two sons from a previous relationship, Elias Opuiyo, age 13, and Coen Opuiyo, age 10. Allison was the youngest of five children and the only boy, leaving behind four older sisters, I.B. Opuiyo, Ibi Opuiyo, Tammy Opuiyo Allison, and Tina Opuiyo Rix. He is preceded in death by his late mother, Boma Allison Opuiyo, who passed on June 10, 2024. Allison is survived by his sisters-in-law Stephanie Faigley and Katie Bliss. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Janie Bradshaw, who passed on April 5, 2020, and his father-in-law Allen Bradshaw who passed on July 26, 2019.
First, his name! Allison was named after his father, a junior, and grandfather who were from Nigeria. The part of Nigeria Allison's family is from is called Rivers State. In Rivers State, there is a heavy British influence due to the region's palm oil and subsequent crude oil production used for heavy machinery lubrication. The British use Allison as a unisex name, unlike here in America. Allison never shied away from his Nigerian roots nor the cultural relevancy and significance of his first name.
In a society that can be cruel and unforgiving as a first-generation Nigerian-American growing up in Texas, Allison owned his identity with pride and proudly shared his last name with his wife and three children.
